The Margery Magill Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the life and legacy of Margery Magill by supporting students who embody her spirit of service, leadership, and dedication to education.
Applicants must be a graduating high school senior who demonstrates academic achievement, leadership qualities, and community involvement. Additional eligibility criteria may apply depending on the year’s scholarship guidelines.
The scholarship amount varies each year depending on available funding.
All applications must be handwritten and submitted by mail to the scholarship committee. A completed application includes transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a personal statement/essay. Typed or electronic submissions will not be considered.
The handwritten requirement honors Margery Magill’s emphasis on personal effort, sincerity, and individuality. The committee values the time and care applicants put into their submissions.
The deadline for the upcoming scholarship cycle is May 1, 2026. Handwritten applications must be postmarked by this date to be eligible.
Your essay should highlight your educational goals, leadership experiences, community service, and how you carry forward the values that Margery Magill exemplified.Please address the prompt in your personal narrative.
A scholarship committee reviews all applications and selects recipients based on academic merit, leadership potential, community service, and alignment with the mission of the scholarship.
The award is for one academic year only. If a student takes a gap year, the scholarship will be held for one year, but the recipient must inform the committee by September 1 of the gap year in an email and also remind the committee when the gap year is complete.
Recipients will be notified by email or text. Announcements may also be posted on the scholarship website and in the Appeal-Democrat.
